Frequently asked questions

Labocine is a hybrid, research-driven cinematic platform. Part streaming, part evolving ecosystem, part curatorial engine, it brings together audiovisual works—image, sound, and experimental media—to create connections across cultures, methods, and modes of practice and storytelling.

We resist fixed categories and embrace Cinema from the Science New Wave: a space where research becomes experience and inquiry takes many shapes and forms. Through experimental curation, Labocine circulates these works across a range of spaces—including homes, classrooms, and museums—revealing the cultural, poetic, and experimental dimensions of research.

At its core, Labocine is a community built on mutual benefit. We provide our members with tools to manage and share their work, document research and process, collaborate, and broaden the reach of their projects. Through this exchange, new connections form and new stories emerge. Labocine is not a static platform—it is a living system, continuously becoming.
All submissions must be made through our Submission Portal so our programming team can review the work and gather the necessary information. Please avoid sending direct viewing links by email. We review all submissions with care, but we do not accept all works. Due to the high volume of submissions, we may not be able to respond to each one individually. If a submission resonates with the vision and traits of the Science New Wave, we will reach out. If selected, the work becomes part of the Labocine Archive. Science New Wave Members then gain access to tools in their Lab to manage their work, share research and process, and broaden the reach of their projects.

Film Submission Form
Scenes Submission Form

Scenes are non-edited sequences, fragments, observations, or research-driven recordings.
Labocine is actively redefining who makes films. Anthropologists, researchers, scientists, artists, and practitioners of all kinds may already be producing videos, recordings, scenes, or audiovisual traces as part of their work—often without labeling them as "films." We invite you to share these. Don't be shy: what you consider informal or process-based may be deeply aligned with the vision of the Science New Wave.

Beyond submitting work, we encourage you to create a Habitat profile to share who you are and what you're exploring. You can also contribute by writing an editorial piece for our Spotlights, curating programs, supporting research, or amplifying the Science New Wave within your own ecosystem.

If you have a specific idea or would like to get involved in another way, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
When you sign up with your email, you're automatically placed on the FREE plan. This allows you to create your Habitat profile and begin engaging with the Labocine community.

Watching films and accessing additional benefits is available by joining the Science New Wave through the Personal plan. This includes access to curated programs, the ability to create playlists, and additional member tools. As a member, you also receive a unique genetic code marking your place within the Science New Wave ecosystem.
You're charged at the time you subscribe.

If you choose the Monthly Basic Plan, you'll be charged $3 per month.

If you choose the Yearly Basic Plan, you'll be charged $30 per year, starting on your subscription date.

Your subscription renews automatically on the same date each month or year, depending on your plan. For example, if you subscribe on August 26, you'll be charged on the 26th of each month (Monthly Plan) or August 26 each year (Yearly Plan).

You can cancel your subscription at any time. If you're on the Yearly Basic Plan, you'll continue to have access until the end of your year. If you're on the Monthly Basic Plan, you'll continue to have access until the end of your current month.

If a subscription is set to cancel or has been cancelled, the account holder is no longer part of the Science New Wave ecosystem. Your Science New Wave membership can be restored at any time by reactivating your account.
Labocine is built around curation, exchange, and cross-pollination. We work to showcase singular works from around the world and to connect films and audiovisual research with curators, educators, institutions, and audiences.

To do this, we rely on a dedicated team working year-round to manage communications and coordination, curate and archive works, host and preserve films and audiovisual material, and sustain the technology and infrastructure that support the platform.

Our team actively seeks out new voices, develops curated programs, highlights events worldwide, and carefully selects works to bring them into dialogue with one another.

At the heart of Labocine is our community. We are building an ecosystem that values interdisciplinarity and exchange—where collaborations can form and research, process, and cinema circulate together through the Habitat network. This work takes time, attention, and commitment. Your membership helps make it possible and supports an ecosystem we believe in deeply.
You can cancel your subscription at any time from the Account section by selecting Cancel Subscription in the Billing area.

If you cancel, your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period—until the end of the month for the Monthly Basic Plan, or until the end of the year for the Yearly Basic Plan.

Once a subscription is set to cancel, your Science New Wave membership and its benefits are no longer active. You can reactivate your subscription at any time from your Account, and your Science New Wave membership will be restored upon reactivation.
Invoices for the Personal plan are available in your Account section under Billing (Download Invoice).

For PRO accounts, invoices can be downloaded by account admins from Admin Settings. If you can't locate your invoice, feel free to reach out and we'll be happy to send it to you.
This is a question we receive often. In short: if you are an entity, we'd love to hear from you.

By entity, we mean more than a traditional organization. This can include institutions, collectives, festivals, classrooms, research groups, production companies—or even single-person entities operating beyond an individual practice (and yes, we're open to more-than-human definitions too).

Before onboarding a PRO account, we take time to understand your needs and ensure our visions align. We'll ask how you plan to use PRO access—whether for research, teaching, classroom use, festival or museum programming, internal screenings, or other professional contexts. This helps us determine whether PRO is the right fit and allows us to be transparent about what we can and can't offer.

PRO Accounts are connected to an individual Labocine account, but they are designed specifically for entities, not personal use. This distinction matters because, on the other end, PRO access connects you to filmmakers and creators who have agreed to be part of the PRO Library and to share their work with you in a professional, trusted context.

To apply, please complete the Labocine PRO form and answer a few questions about your entity—such as whether you are a collective, production company, university, non-profit, school, agency, or similar organization.

If you're unsure whether PRO applies to you, we encourage you to reach out—we're happy to talk it through.
Personal and PRO accounts are interconnected and appear together when you sign in, but they serve different purposes.

A Personal account is designed for individual participation in Labocine—watching films, creating playlists, and engaging with the Science New Wave ecosystem.

A PRO account is intended for entities. With PRO access, you can explore the PRO Library of 20,000+ films, build your own community, and create events and playlists for professional use. PRO accounts also come with curatorial support to help you navigate the catalog and develop meaningful programming.

Together, Personal and PRO accounts allow individuals and organizations to engage with Labocine in complementary ways—one personal, one collective.
