There is a lot of wind noise on the audio track so I advise watching this with the sound turned down low. This video shows midseason murmuration of starlings recorded in January of 2014. The recordings were made along RT 6 near the MA/RI border. I have observed a change in this group of starlings over the course of the season. Early season the starlings are scattered and fly in smaller groups. Later they create a brute forceful unity of flock. Is this behaviour instinctual or are their imitative skills sufficient to produce an order from chaos?
