About

Hailing from Massachusetts, Max graduated with a degree in film and history from Harvard University. He has worked as a researcher for Errol Morris, James Schamus and Athina Tsangari and has gone on to teach filmmaking at Harvard and Columbia.

Hello! I am Max. I am a Los Angeles-based, Massachusetts-born writer/director/producer working in both comedy and drama. I am working on stuff with cool people - Fuzzy Door Productions (Seth MacFarlane), MGM, and Andrew Jay Cohen (Neighbors).

Before coming to Los Angeles, I earned my MFA in directing from Columbia, where I also taught undergraduate filmmaking. Before that, I studied history and documentary film at Harvard, where I also performed with the Hasty Pudding Theatricals (which is America's oldest theater troupe) and was awarded the Jonathan Levy Award for most promising actor at the university (an award which I’ve subsequently done nothing with)!

I got my start in the bizz as an historical researcher for Errol Morris, James Schamus, Caryn Capotosto and Athina Tsangari, becoming engrossed in stories of American history and the American dream. My short films are recipients of awards from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Indian Paintbrush, Panavision, and Columbia University.

I like basketball, ties, and fried chicken. I don't like (nor wish-to-find-myself-in-the-general-vicinity-of) velcro or umbrellas.
