About

In the experimental films of Jeannette Louie, perception creates identity. She follows the trail of consciousness as its streams through a greater world asking, “What am I?” As the mind reaches for autonomy and grace, expressions of longing, loving and being inhabit visionary tales that combine animation, narrative and documentary means.

“Empire of My Melodious Mind”, Jeannette’s latest documentary, captures the fluid nature of cultural and linguistic influence. Diving repeatedly into streams of consciousness, the film continues her explorations of cognitive states that have been rendered in “Amygdala”, “The Land Within” and “Isle of I”.

Her films screen extensively through global film festivals and her research is supported by numerous awards and fellowships, Rome Prize/The American Academy in Rome, Creative Capital Foundation, The Bogliasco Foundation, Corporation of Yaddo, Gapado AIR, Willapa Bay AIR and more.

She is presently in production on “US Being Epic”, a documentary examining how identity is memorialized through family photographic archives.
