Phillip Gladkov is a multi-disciplinary artist, filmmaker, animator, and amateur mycologist who has devoted over a decade to working in film and video and a lifetime to being an artist/designer.

At 23, Gladkov released his non-narrative environmental and social documentary titled “5,” which renowned filmmaker Godfrey Reggio praised as "a cinematic beacon of simplicity and beauty." Gladkov was invited to discuss his film at TedxNYU in 2017.

Beyond his work in moving pictures, Gladkov creates fine art using the unusual medium of birch-bark, cultivating a unique style that has earned him spots in various galleries and museums. Recently, he has combined his passion for film and birch to create an original stop-motion animation entirely made of birch-bark. “Story of the Sun” (2024) is currently screening in festivals all around the world.

Phillip Gladkov is an impact-driven artist and his care for humanity and the environment is the driving force behind most of his work. He is also very passionate about mycology and ecology. Some of his fungal field samples have been sequenced, stored in mycobank, and included in scientific papers. Gladkov believes that magic is the intersection of art and science and strives to symbiotically merge his passion for studying nature with his art.

Phillip Gladkov currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
