J.D. Brynn is the Filmmaker-in-Residence at Google’s Quantum A.I. computing lab in Santa Barbara. He co-created the popular online show SCIENCE VS CINEMA with astronomer Andy Howell reviewing the scientific accuracy of blockbuster sci-fi films.

His debut feature as co-director/editor was FIRST TIME CALLER, based on the acclaimed audio drama by Gideon Media about a shock-jock broadcasting at the start of an environmental apocalypse. The film won Best Directors, Best Actor and the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle Film Festival, along with Best Feature at Brooklyn Sci-Fi Film Fest, Best Actor at Vancouver Independent Film Festival and was the Opening Night Film at the Bowery Film Festival. It was acquired by Buffalo8 for distribution and had its streaming release in January.

Born and raised in Toronto, J.D. attended NYU Tisch Film/TV, where his thesis film CITIZEN won Best Director and the Audience Choice Award, plus Best Student Film at Screamfest LA and Best Action/Adventure Film at the Comic-Con Film Festival. His feature script THE PILOT about Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry received the NYU Vague Production Grant, and his feature script IN MOTION about motion picture inventor Eadweard Muybridge won a Sloan Foundation Screenwriting Grant.
