In a narrow laboratory in Columbia’s Schermerhorn Hall, a handful of architecture students are developing novel techniques for building with earthen materials. Through a mixture of engineering, experimentation, observations and play they are mixing soil, biopolymers and robotics to expand the possibilities of what natural building materials can be. This film brings viewers on a tour through the collaborative culture of the Natural Materials Lab, helmed by professor Lola Ben Alon.
