Orangemond was supposed to be Gabriele Denecke’s Master’s film at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen der DDR (Potsdam-Babelsberg), but the project was never officially finished. After the film school’s ”higher ups” had watched the unedited footage of what Denecke shot, they closed down production. Denecke later edited this version as a kind of fine-tuned eternal work in progress – befitting the film’s hybrid nature as a documentary with fiction elements.
