When filmmaker Hannah Kersten moves into Rotterdam’s Crooswijk neighbourhood, she initially feels proud to be part of the “real Rotterdam.” However, this personal short film explores why this pride was misplaced. While Kersten’s scrappy street cinematography captures textural details of her new surroundings, her voice-over reflects on the fraught tension between gentrification, eviction and displacement. Kersten ultimately raises the question: when the city is constantly changing, what is the “real” Rotterdam anymore?
