Marie Curie-Skłodowska is perhaps the most famous scientist. Her status was influenced not only by discoveries in the field of chemistry and physics, but also (and perhaps mainly) by several biographies, biographical films and shows where she is the main character.
Madam Curie offers a version of her story filmed in the period of World War II, and at the same time in the period of classic Hollywood. It can boast an elaborate set, typical of the MGM studio at the time, and a star-studded cast. This is the third of eight joint films by Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon. Both were nominated for an Oscar for their performances, among the seven other nominations was for best film, which supports the perception of the biographical film as a prestigious genre.
