Each week, men and women suffering from chronic pain visit Dr. Danziger at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris. He listens to them, advises them, and tries to ease the pain that holds them in its grip, dedicating his research to it. One day, he hears about Alain Bastien, who, after a motorcycle accident, no longer feels any pain. After a series of experiments, Dr. Danziger discovers that Alain Bastien does indeed feel pain, but it no longer affects him—it has become indifferent to him...
