In an entertaining documentary series produced by ViceTV, American chemist and documentary filmmaker Hamilton Morris travels across cultures around the world to experience and describe the effects of psychoactive substances first hand. The city of Huautla de Jiménez in southern Mexico is associated with the organization of spiritual sessions based on the use of psychoactive mushrooms. In the 1950s, the ethnomycologist R. Gordon Wasson made it famous by introducing ceremonies led by the shaman Maria Sabina. The relationship of Western society to the use of psychoactive mushrooms has thus changed drastically. Morris introduces us to the sacrament of mushrooms not only from the point of view of cultural and historical ties to the original population, but also to communities beyond the borders of the state, who are fascinated by the miraculous world of mushrooms.
