The warming of the planet Earth has long been no secret, and it is most noticeable in the polar regions... Zdenek Zvonek's documentary follows a group of scientists who are dedicated to exploring the polar regions of Spitsbergen. The aim of the documentary is to introduce the audience to their research focusing on the issue of global warming and other changes through which humans negatively affect the nature around them, and to at least somewhat dispel the rumors that prevail about this topic among the general public. In the beautiful scenery of the harsh Arctic landscape, the director reflects together with the scientists on the role of humanity as a whole on the planet and what may or may not await us in the near future, when not only places in nature untouched by man will disappear, but water in the landscape will rapidly decrease and entire animal species will become extinct. In our current period, the rate of species disappearance is said to be 1000 x 10000 higher than in the past. In Spitsbergen, we will especially realize that nature is a storehouse of various material services and resources that we cannot do without, and at the same time, that nature is very seriously threatened by the expanding human civilization and that it is necessary to protect it. But at the same time, not to stop human progress and to find methods that will support a sustainable life on our planet.
