The Silueta Series is Mendieta's most well-known body of work, created between 1973 and 1980. In Anima, Silueta de Cohetes (Firework Piece), Mendieta's iconic abstracted shape of the female figure is formed from an armature of fireworks. Outlined in bright red and billowing smoke, the “silhouette” of the title is set against the night sky of Oaxaca, Mexico.
