The 12-part video essay Amuletos y Seres Vivientes (Amulets and Living Beings) is an attempt to approach the life and place of Amaicha del Valle’s community. Vegetation, wind, clouds, sun, time, light and darkness shape our recordings in this small village in northern Argentina. We search and find our settings in the wide landscape: ancestral carob beans, protected cacti, abandoned sites, fenced land, neon beverages, plastic waste reclaimed by nature.

We intervene with the image the way we intervene with the place – with cautious interaction. We compose our images by seizing objects, colors, and textures and reposition them in order to fill a framed surface. Seeking a connection that may not exist, we plug in and plug out, sweep the land and scratch the soil, and question our limits on this community’s land, so thoroughly marked by capitalism. Everything seems possible, except going against Pachamama.
